5 Items You NEED At Your Desk

When I started as an intern at The Laker, I was immediately given my own cubicle and as I adjusted to my new job one thing I was really excited for was to decorate my desk.
Did I want to follow a color scheme? Should I only get practical items? Did I want a light up sign? These were just a few of the many questions that I would ask myself when I would brainstorm my decorating ideas with my supervisor.

Over the last 6 months I’ve realized what works and what doesn’t in my space. Giving myself a practical area at work that feels like me was super important as I bought new items and got rid of different things over time.
Not only do these items work for me, but they also work for my friends who have been a professional for years.
Cell Phone Stand
This item is a must! Especially with having a job in social media I’m constantly on my phone and checking different apps, so having a phone stand at my desk makes it easy to grab and allows me to see all my notifications as they come in.
I would definitely recommend this stand from Amazon, but any phone stand from any of your local stores work too.
In my opinion, the cheaper the better!
Snacks
If you’re like me and constantly snacking during the day I definitely suggest you keep some sweets, like candy, and some salty snacks, like chips, at your desk to satisfy all your cravings.
If you aren’t a snack person, disregard this tip of course, but I can bet most of you understand the struggle of wanting a snack whether it’s while you’re in a long meeting or during a class lecture. Having your favorite treats can turn a bad day into a better one.
Even if you’re trying to eat healthier, keeping clean options at your desk can still promote better eating habits and keep you from reaching for an unhealthy option from the closest vending machine.
Laptop Riser/Stand
This item is another game changer and I would have never thought of getting one until my supervisor, Kelli, pointed out her posture because of being on the computer all day.
Whether you’re a social media manager, a writer, or simply someone who is on their computer a lot, you know how it feels to work for a long period of time and how much your back can hurt after sitting at your desk all day.
This laptop riser/stand from Amazon will keep your computer from overheating and stop you from hunching over because your screen will be at eye level.
Sticky Notes
This tip might sound silly and even obvious, but having sticky notes at your desk is a great way to stay organized and on top of the tasks that you need to complete.
In my first blog post, I suggested that you keep lists to stay organized and one way to keep these lists in front of you is by putting them on sticky notes and sticking them to your laptop or monitor.
My favorite sticky notes aren’t the bright colored ones, but the pastel colored sticky notes because they match my “aesthetic” and honestly just look better, in my opinion.
Here’s a link to my favorite ones from Amazon.
Cell Phone Charger
The last item I suggest for you to have at your desk is, of course, a fast charging phone charger.
Like I said earlier, if you are constantly working from your phone, like me, having this item is a basic necessity when working eight hour shifts.
Getting a charger that charges your phone quickly will help while you’re out in the field getting content. You’ll be left without any worries about your phone dying and get all the photos and pictures that you need for social media.
Since I personally have an iPhone, here’s a fast charging iPhone charger from Amazon. If you aren’t an iPhone user, there are plenty of options online for fast charging Android chargers on Amazon as well.
I hope this list inspires you to get practical items for your desk that you can use on a daily basis. Get anything that will make the work day easier for you, that’s the important part.
Let me know in the comments if you use any of the items on this list or if you think I should buy something for my desk! I’m open to all and any suggestions.
